Imagine we’re all sitting around the table, cups in hand, and someone says, “So, how are you really doing with all this perimenopause and menopause stuff?” There are nods, maybe a sigh or two, and a few knowing glances. For so many of us, this time of life can feel like a mystery—sometimes even a bit overwhelming. But what if, instead of seeing age or hormones as barriers, we saw them as invitations to try things a little differently?
Let’s be honest: perimenopause and menopause come with their own cast of characters—hot flashes, mood swings, sleep that just won’t cooperate, and maybe a little extra weight that seems to have its own mind. And then there’s the chorus of voices—sometimes well-meaning, sometimes not—telling us that this is just how it is, that we should expect less energy, less vibrancy, and less joy as we get older. But what if that’s not the whole story?

I’ve been thinking a lot about how much power we actually have in shaping this chapter. For me, shifting toward a whole food plant-based lifestyle has been a game-changer. It’s not just about what we’re saying “no” to—processed foods, added sugars, and the like—but what we’re saying “yes” to: vibrant veggies, hearty whole grains, and all those plant-based goodies that make our bodies hum with energy. I’ve noticed that when I focus on nourishing myself from the inside out, those hot flashes feel a little less intense, my mood is steadier, and I have more energy to do the things I love—whether that’s sharing sweet potato sushi on Instagram or going for a walk with a friend.

Now, I know there are plenty of myths out there. “You’re too old to change.” “Weight gain is inevitable.” “Menopause means your best years are behind you.” But honestly, I don’t buy it. Age isn’t a barrier—it’s just a number. And while our bodies are changing, they’re also incredibly resilient. I’ve seen women—myself included—find new energy, new confidence, and even new passions by making small, sustainable lifestyle adjustments. It’s not about perfection or deprivation; it’s about adding in more of what makes you feel good.
So, let’s talk about what that looks like in real life. Maybe it’s swapping out your morning toast for a smoothie packed with greens, or experimenting with microgreens and wheatgrass shots for an extra boost. Maybe it’s finding a community of women who are also exploring plant-based living and supporting each other through the ups and downs. Maybe it’s simply giving yourself permission to try something new, and to let go of the idea that menopause is the end of vitality.

Because here’s the truth: this time of life can be full of surprises—not just challenges, but opportunities for growth, connection, and joy. And when we take care of ourselves with compassion, when we nourish our bodies with whole foods, and when we surround ourselves with supportive friends, we’re not just surviving perimenopause and menopause—we’re thriving through them.
So, let’s keep the conversation going. What’s working for you? What myths have you let go of? And how are you making this chapter your own? Because we’re in this together—and there’s so much hope, and so much life, still ahead.
